Pinball Full

I’ve always had a soft spot for playing the old pinball machines. If I have a few spare bucks in a pub which has them, I know that I’ll try my hardest to get on the leaderboard.

Much to my disappointment, I have never managed to get on the leaderboard to input my 3 letters. However, I love the look and feel of the old machines, so decided to create my own rendering of a machine from scratch as a fun personal project.

I’ve been pretty lucky in my life and my career so decided to take inspiration from that and create a table called “Lady Luck” with a gambling theme. I also love to visit casinos when I’m out of town for a night out, so it seemed rather fitting to continue that theme on the table itself

I spent a lot of time going to and from Photoshop to Cinema 4D as I build the core components and the art to go on the table itself, along with all the materials to add the detail needed. I had some great fun with caustics, reflections and the glows on the table alongside introducing some exaggerated depth of field so the focus was on the centerpiece of the table.

Next time around I think i’ll remodel things a bit differently and create the whole table and animate it, which would take a while but I feel would be a great challenge!

Recently I followed my dream to co-found a creative studio, offering clients the opportunity to break boundaries with striking design.

After a long stint in the agency and tech worlds spanning over a decade, I managed to find a partner who was exactly what was needed to co-found a new type of studio.

VAANDAL was our brainchild, and we recently launched in Toronto, CA. Offering compelling storytelling, striking visual design and award-winning work to a multitude of clients across multiple sectors.

We are proud to be working with clients who strive to have a big impact on our world and the communities in which we live, from MedTech companies developing inventions that will save millions of lives, to VR / AR brands revolutionizing how humans communicate with each other. Our clients are ambitious, focused, and renounce complacency. They shake up markets, industries, and reject the status quo; they never do things a certain way because that’s how it’s “always been done.” Neither do we.

Space Themed Portfolio

As I am neither qualified to become an astronaut or even have the stomach to go on a rollercoaster – so It’s kind of out of my reach to go to space. However, I can always pretend.

Space has always wowed me. I’ve wanted to create some space inspired 3D work for a while, and whilst looking for a new job I wanted to present myself as a candidate who was trying to reach for the stars. After a little time researching space attire I opened up C4D to explore what I could create.

Exploring the horizons of a design was the theme, and I spent a good amount of time exploring different options for each section of my site. From satellites, to rockets it was a great way to learn some new modeling and rendering skills whilst having a great amount of fun.

After the renders were complete and the copy finalized, I wanted to take things a step further. So I coded various star fields to give the illusion of being in space in the helmet and keep loading time to a minimum rather than use video.

I feel the outcome really reflected what I wanted to achieve – to present myself as a designer who was exploring new things but had a vision of the future.
